Hello there! Thanks for visiting Operation Retire, I’m Tom Weldon.

After 24 years in the military, followed by an unhappy job at a bank, I chose to retire at the early age of 58. I am now 68 (never married), and after a decade of living as a retired veteran, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my wisdom.
I happen to love traveling, despite the challenges of being a colon cancer survivor. It’s my firm belief that it’s very important to learn new things every day; the day you stop learning, you stop the will to live. I’ve faced my own mortality more than once, so I know that while dealing with the aches and pains of aging is hard, it beats the heck out of the alternative! I consider myself a whiz at stretching out those retirement benefits and keeping a positive outlook on growing older.
